Juana, Sarahí, Nanci, and Norma arrived at the Casa Hogar Douglas (CHD) after their mother abandoned the family and left her four daughters with a mentally unstable father in deep poverty.  Sleeping on dirt floors, guarding each other, uneducated and uncared for, they were sent to the CHD by government authorities.  Now their lives are completely different.

Juana is 16 years old and has learned how to read and write and is studying cosmotology at a local training center.  She helps with cooking and laundry and helps with the needs of the younger children.  Before her quinciñera, she and her sisters were reconciled with their father, who, though he cannot care for them, he now visits and expresses
